SAFARI ITINERARY : MATERUNI ESCAPE WATERFALL TREKKING

Materuni Waterfalls is located in Materuni Village, in the Moshi district of Kilimanjaro Region, northeastern Tanzania.  The area sits on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, and the trail to the waterfall begins near the village around 2,500 meters above sea level.The waterfall drops down into a natural pool; estimates of its height vary. Most sources say 70‑90 meters. The place is special for  Scenic hike : The path to the falls passes through lush tropical rainforest, coffee plantations, banana, avocado farms (shambas), and vegetation typical of Mount Kilimanjaro’s foothills. Cultural experience: Materuni is a Chagga village. Tours often include learning how Chagga people grow, harvest, roast, and brew coffee, sometimes with traditional songs or dances. Local foods and even banana beer may be part of the experience. Swimming: At the base of the waterfall there’s a pool where you can take a dip. It’s often quite cold but very refreshing. Views & nature: On clear days, you can see Kibo (one of Kilimanjaro’s peaks) and view Moshi town from higher up. Also good for birdlife and local wildlife in the forests

 Receive a warm welcome from the local Chagga community.Registrarion and  Brief introduction to the day’s activities and the village’s history.r.

COFFEE TOUR EXPERIENCE 10:00 AM

 Visit a local coffee farm and learn about traditional Chagga coffee-making. Participate in the process: picking, roasting, grinding, and brewing. Enjoy a fresh cup of organic Arabica coffee while listening to local songs.

 GUIDED HIKE TO MATERUNI WATERFALLS  11:30 AM

 Embark on a 45-minute hike through lush rainforest trails. Learn about local flora, fauna, and farming practices. Spot tropical fruits like avocados, mangos, and bananas along the way.

ARRIVE AT MATERUNI WATERFALLS 12:30 PM

 Marvel at the 150-meter-high waterfall cascading into a natural pool. Take photos, relax, and enjoy the serene surroundings. Optional: take a refreshing dip in the cool mountain water.

RETURN HIKE TO THE VILLAGE & LUNCH 2:30 PM

 Hike back to the village with your guide. Enjoy freshly made  local dishes and Banana wine/Beer experience

    • Participate in a coffee tour: Learn the entire coffee-making process, from picking and roasting to grinding, and get to try the delicious, freshly brewed coffee.

    • Experience Chagga culture: Enjoy traditional singing, dancing, and storytelling during the coffee tour, which many visitors find to be a joyful and memorable part of the day.

    • Try local food and drinks: Sample traditional Chagga food and try local banana beer (mbege), which is often a highlight for visitors.
